It is estimated that there are over 2.2 million people working in the UK construction industry and it is one of the most dangerous industries to work in, with construction accidents occurring each day.
The type of accidents you may experience include those involving scaffolding, faulty machinery, being struck by a falling object, injury caused by onsite vehicles, injury caused by demolition, hazardous waste and electrocution to name just a few.
If you work in the building industry your employer is legally bound to take steps to protect you from accident and injury whilst at work. They must provide you with the necessary tools, machinery and personal protective equipment (PPE) including the necessary clothing, gloves and eye protection necessary to carry out your job. Your employer must also assess and organise the work so as to reduce the risk of a work related accident and must maintain a safe working environment for you to work in.
If your employer has not fulfilled their duty and you have experienced an accident on a construction site you may be eligible to make an accident claim for compensation.
